    Home Alone/Home Alone 2 /Home Alone 3/Home Alone 4

    Feature  >  Comedy

A box set containing the original and the 3 sequels to the film that launched Macaulay Culkin's career. In 'Home Alone' (1990) ten-year-old Kevin (Culkin) is banished to his room while his family prepare for a Christmas trip to Europe. He wakes up to find they have inadvertently left without him. Kevin must cope not only with life on his own but also with the threat of two persistent, albeit incompetent, burglars. Meanwhile, his mother vainly tries to find a way to get back home. 'Home Alone 2' (1992) sees Kevin McCallister (Culkin) get separated from his family at Christmas time again. This time, they're in Florida and he's in New York, and the two bumbling gangsters from the first film (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) are out of jail and on Kevin's trail. Whilst in 'Home Alone 3' (1997) a band of hi-tech thieves have stolen a top-secret computer chip, and placed it inside a toy car. However, through a series of mishaps the car finds its way to Alex Pruitt (Alex D. Linz), who is alone at home with the chicken pox. The thieves track Alex down, but their attempts to retrieve the chip are all thwarted by the young whiz-kid. Finally, 'Home Alone 4' (2002) is a made-for-TV film. Kevin McAllister returns (played by Macaulay Culkin look-alike Mike Weinberg) and once again finds himself left alone in an empty house; this time it is a hi-tech safe-house, owned by the girlfriend of his recently divorced father. The house is being used by a royal heir and Kevin (in his usual style) manages to see off potential kidnappers whilst also making sure his parents get back together.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid 1-3

    Feature  >  Comedy
All three films of the comedy franchise based on Jeff Kinney's best-selling illustrated novel detailing the trials and tribulations of a wise-cracking pre-teen. 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' (2010) follows 12-year-old Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon), who, along with his best friend, Rowley (Robert Capron), spends his days negotiating the minefield that is middle school. Whether dodging bullies, learning complex and seemingly ever-changing social codes, grappling with the onset of puberty or attempting to fathom the mysteries of the opposite sex, Greg writes it all down in his diary. In 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 - Rodrick Rules' (2011), just when he thought life couldn't get any more complicated, Greg is horrified to discover that his older brother, Rodrick (Devon Bostick), has taken possession of his secret diary. Meanwhile, he must navigate the hurdles posed by a summer swimming contest and the school talent show. Finally, in 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3 - Dog Days' (2012), Greg is having his worst summer ever. A self-confessed 'indoor person', all he wants to do is spend his holidays playing computer games in his room with the curtains drawn. But his mother has other ideas and packs him off with Rowley to stay at a country club, where - to Greg's horror - outdoor activites and family bonding are the order of the day.

    Rocky: The Complete Saga

    Feature  >  Drama
All six movies from the popular 'Rocky' franchise. In 'Rocky' (1976), club fighter Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) has hit rock bottom. Having turned 30, his boxing career is pretty much over and he now makes a living collecting payments for a loan shark. Things start to look up when he begins dating Adrian (Talia Shire), sister of his friend Paulie (Burt Young). However, when world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) decides to take on a 'nobody' in his title fight, Rocky finds himself chosen. Encouraged by his coach, Mickey (Burgess Meredith), he begins training for the big fight - much to Adrian's disapproval. In 'Rocky 2' (1979), Rocky's life returns to normality following his battle with world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed. Anxious to prove that Rocky's performance was a mere fluke, Creed offers him a big money rematch. Now unemployed and with a child on the way, Rocky has little option but to accept. In 'Rocky 3' (1982), now world champion and having enjoyed ten wins in three years, Rocky has become over-confident and complacent. He pays the price when he is humiliated in the ring by Clubber Price (Mr T), and this disaster is compounded when Rocky's trusted trainer dies. Determined to reclaim his reputation, Rocky unexpectedly turns to his old adversary Apollo Creed for help. In 'Rocky 4' (1985), Rocky heads to the Soviet Union after Russian boxer Drago (Dolph Lundgren) beats Apollo Creed to death in the ring. However, will the Italian stallion be able to vanquish a fighter whose punches can deliver a one tonne-per-square inch impact? In 'Rocky 5' (1990), robbed of his millions and brain-damaged after years in the ring, Rocky is forced to move back to his old neighbourhood. Rocky Junior (Sage Stallone) finds it difficult to adjust to these hard times, and feels further alienated when his father takes on a protege. In 'Rocky Balboa' (2006), Rocky is now a 50-something widower after the death of his beloved Adrian. His relationship with his son has also deteriorated and Rocky finds his only solace in the stories he recounts to the customers who visit his deli. However, everything is about to change as a 'what if' debate emerges as to whether current champion Mason 'The Line' Dixon (Antonio Tarver) would have been able to beat Rocky in his prime. Nobody ever suspects that the match might actually happen, given the 30-year age difference. However, when Dixon's management sets up an exhibition fight, the gauntlet is well and truly thrown down and an enthusiastic Rocky grasps it with both hands.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Peter Jackson's complete epic big screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy - filmed back-to-back and released over 3 consecutive years. In 'The Fellowship of the Rings' (2001) Frodo (Elijah Wood) is a hobbit living in the Shire, a quiet, peaceful part of Middle Earth. When it turns out that his elderly relative Bilbo (Ian Holm) is harbouring the ultimate Ring of Power and the evil Nazgul riders of Sauron are coming to find it, Frodo is entrusted by wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) to deliver the Ring out of the Shire without it falling into their hands. Frodo leaves the Shire aided by his cousins Merry (Dominic Monaghan), Pippin (Billy Boyd) and trusty friend Sam Gamgee (Sean Astin), but they soon realise that the agents of Mordor are everywhere and that their trip is far from over. Once they reach the Elvish realm of Rivendell the Hobbits form part of the anti-Sauron fellowship, which includes Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Boromir (Sean Bean), Legolas Greenleaf (Orlando Bloom), Gimli the dwarf and of course Gandalf. Together they must battle across Middle Earth to destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom, the fiery chasm in the centre of Mordor. In 'The Two Towers' (2002) the Fellowship of the Ring has now divided and Sam and Frodo are lost in the hills of Emyn Muil. They are also being followed by Gollum, a creature who promises to help them find the Mountain of Doom. Meanwhile Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli search for the hobbits Merry and Pippin in the Kingdom of Rohan, which is currently being attacked by Saruman's orc armies. Gandalf returns as Gandalf the White to remind Aragorn of his destiny to unite the people of Rohan with Gondor. Whilst the Fellowship are not travelling together they must unite against the powerful forces coming from the Two Towers: Orthanc Tower in Isengard where Saruman has bred a deadly army of 10,000, and Sauron's fortress at Barad-dûr. Finally, 'The Return of the King' (2003) won all 11 Academy Awards it was nominated for, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Gandalf manages to rally Gondor's fallen army with the help of King Theoden of Rohan for the biggest battle in the history of Middle-earth; and Aragorn finally faces up to his responsibilities. They are obviously out-numbered but are determined to keep Sauron distracted in order to enable Frodo to complete his quest to destroy the Ring by throwing it into the fires of the Mountain of Doom.
